On April 27, the Panoptic staff traveled to Athens for the annual Georgia Scholastic Press Association Awards Banquet. They were joined by other newspaper, online, broadcasting and yearbook staffs from across the state. The staff returned from their trip with numerous accolades.
Junior Lauren Bell was awarded second place in the 2011-12 First Amendment Essay Competition. Bell wrote the essay and submitted it to be judged against dozens of others. She won $75 for herself and $75 for the staff.
Sophomore Zack Leedy and junior Brandi Canady earned All Georgia in caption writing. Senior Jessica Pina, junior Lauren Bell and sophomore Brittany Phillips won All Georgia for an Informational Graphic. Junior Anna Roberts won Superior in Feature Writing. junior Elizabeth Ponson and sophomore Jenny holloway earned Superior in the Feature Profile category. Junior Kelsey Rogers earned superior in Headline Writing.
The student journalists worked hard all year to produce award earning material and has already started creating more entries for the 2012-13 school year and awards ceremony.
